The Road Less Travelled
You may be accustomed to finding our traditional line, priced to be affordable to the middle class. We would love to be making it and also to be teaching others how to make our line but, alas, we do not currently have a production and training studio. To raise funds for a studio we are putting our vintage collection of rare, one of a kind and original design prototypes on the market. To learn more, follow our blog, Andersen Studio Evolution Diaries. We love this process and are committed to seeing it continue for the benefit of future makers.
The Andersen Design Sleeping Sandpiper by Elise Isabel Andersen, 6 inches long.
The Sleeping Sandpiper spirals into itself and tucks its head into its wing .
Our original ceramic brown slip was designed by Weston Andersen in the sixties. The brown slip is in a graphic pattern on the form but the glaze flows over the pattern, it softens and sometimes breaks up the pattern. The sandpiper is slip cast in red slip and handcrafted by Maine artisan.
Due to the spontaneity of the artistic rendition, and the naturally interactive and unpredictable ceramic processes used by Andersen design, no two sandpipers are alike. That is the beauty of production as the medium of an artform.
